Beam Me Up, Scotty: The Strangest Place in the Italian Alps

The Travel Belles were in Italy and we were doing things in true belle style. We’d taken a train to Switzerland, wandered in enchanted island gardens, visited the ruins of a medieval castle and photographed the sunset from the top deck of a boat. We floated around an elegant old house, having breakfast in the courtyard, cooking rustic dinners and drinking copious amounts of wine – in short, it was everything that you’d imagine a Belle trip should be.

A Secret Garden in Italy

There are few places more lovely than Piedmont, Italy, in the first days of Autumn. The sun has that rich, golden glow, the air is still warm and nature’s colours just pop. When I joined the Travel Belles there recently, we took a trip to Isola Bella (Beautiful Island) – possibly the most enchanting spot of the whole region, with its very own Secret Garden.

In my last, weary days in South America, I was having hallucinations about relaxed excursions on an Italian lake, basking under the last of Europe’s summer sun, wearing something a little more chic than my ruined jeans, which were at the point of falling apart.
